(Andina) .- The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) said today that Peru's economy would have grown by 9% during the third quarter, according to calculations based on its so-called leading indicator, which displays trends in this sector in the short term.
MEF said that this result is obtained after the Peruvian economy recorded a growth of 8.3% in July, 9.6% in August and 9% in September.
MEF projection on the growth of the Peruvian economy for the third quarter is 9.9% lower than previously estimated in the leading indicator posted in September.

MEF said that the main indirect indicators, components of the leading index, showed a positive development in August this year.
In that month, imports of raw materials and intermediate goods rose 20.1%, with orders for the industry (37.2%) and agriculture (107.1%).

The construction sector, the local cement firm showed a growth of 12.9% compared to August last year, again driven by higher demand from the private and public sector for the implementation of infrastructure works, construction of shopping centers , condominiums and houses.
addition, bank credit to the private sector experienced a real growth of 21.5% in August. While
power generation in August totaled 2.588 gigawatt hours (GW.h), which represented 9.6% more than the amount produced in August 2007.
